The object of this course is to teach students to weld Structural Steel Plate and Pipe in the Flat, Vertical, Horizontal and Overhead positions. The Students will be introduced to Cutting of Plate and Pipe with an Oxygen/Acetylene hand torch and with a machine. The Graduate of this course will also be more employable because he will learn to weld two different processes: the Shield Metal Arc, and the Gas Tungsten Arc process. These welding procedures will be to the requirements of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (A.S.M.E.), Section IX, American National Standard Institute (A.N.S.I.) B31.1, American Welding Society (A WS) D1.1 and American Petroleum Institute, API-1104.

Each course level will consist of a short lecture with the Instructor followed by a question and answer period. The Lab Instructor will discuss with the students their participation in the Lab exercises for the day. Occasionally, a guest speaker and an applicable film will reinforce subject material.

Students at this point will be able to go to work. They will have learned:

  1. To cut with an oxygen/acetylene hand torch, tract torch, and a watts cutter.
  2. To make a bead, overlap, and stack their beads(metal)
  3. Two different processes of welding (stick and tig)
  4. On the two different processes, they are able to set speed, and heat control
  5. To trouble-shoot with the different processes.
  6. To weld in any position with the different processes.
  7. To perform the duties of a welder on the job.

special advanced, refresher, upgrading courses

M. Weeks Welding Laboratory Testing and School, Inc. trains welders for the specific needs of the local industries. We can train the student to weld I 1/4, 2 1/4, 5, 9, and 12% Carbon Steel, Chrome, Stainless Steel, Inconel, Hastolloy, Monel, and Aluminum products. Any additional special requests may be considered on an individual basis.

OBJECTIVE: These classes are designed for the advance students who already have welding skills. The classes assist those who have had lapse of time between jobs and need to get back into the workforce. The classes also benefit those who need practice to be able to pass tests given by their employer or to secure higher paying jobs. Existing students to improve on skills they already learned in previous certification courses can also use the courses below.

To be eligible to enroll in the following courses, a student must have previous welding experience. If the director does not have knowledge of the student's experience (i.e. if the student had not previously attended our school or had worked with a local employer), a welding test will be administered and observed by the instructor.
